The Present Context

The financial implications for an organisation amending its practices and procedures and training its managers are obviously very significant. However they pale in comparison to the potential expense of a costly ongoing court case, combined with further costs such as operational loss and legal costs. Hundreds of Irish Organisations are losing time and money through finding themselves involved in these cases.

Number of Equality Authority Case files (2005) was 358

  • Racism now accounts for more than 32% of cases.
  • Gender discrimination comes in at around 19pc.
  • Disability Ground 16%
  • Ageism 13%. Older people are finding themselves stereotyped and discriminated against in obtaining jobs and promotion.

  • Working Conditions 31%
  • Access to Employment 20%
  • Dismissal 14%
  • Promotion 11%
