Editorial
Welcome to the first ERB Monitor edition for 2009, the e-newsletter of the Community Sector Employers Forum (CSEF) keeping you informed on essential employment law issues.
In this edition we look at a variety of HRM issues which need to be considered by managers. The first article examines the procedure of conducting a hearing in the workplace and some of the practical implications that arise particularly in relation to fair treatment. The second article looks at the implications of a European Court Judgement covering annual leave entitlements for employees on long term sick leave.
Managing Workplace Conflict is often a major concern for employers and in the third article we highlight the findings from research carried out on conflict in the workplace.
The fourth and final article gives a broad overview on how managers should manage the probationary period for new employees. Finally, we analyse two cases from the Equality Tribunal concerning claims for discrimination on the disability ground and pregnancy discrimination to determine what lessons employers should learn.
